The Cleveland City Council has passed a resolution to change part of Lake Erie to 'Cleveland Bay'. This action humorously references Donald Trump's naming efforts as the President of the United States.
Details of the Resolution
This resolution was led by Kris Harsh, a member of the City Council, and will not be enacted legally. A spokesperson for the City Council announced that the vote on this matter passed with a result of 13-1. Harsh stated in the City Council meeting on Monday that Trump is "a man who clearly has no fear of saying what no one else is thinking."

Humorous Critique of Trump
Harsh, expressing that "today I feel I have the courage to take this amazing action," criticized Trump's naming policies. He pointed out that while Trump can compel the government to change official names, he cannot unilaterally impose new names on others.
Harsh also mentioned that someone in Pennsylvania is currently seeking to change the name of the lake to 'Pennsylvania Lake' and said, "We cannot allow Pennsylvanians to get ahead of us as Ohioans. This lake belongs to us."
This new action is part of the reactions from Trump's critics regarding his unusual naming policies. Harsh humorously stated that he hopes Apple and Google will "recognize our sovereignty" and label this waterway as 'Cleveland Bay' on their maps.
In recent weeks, Trump has also proposed changing the name of New Mexico to 'New America', although he cannot unilaterally change the name of a state.
While Trump has signed an executive order to change the name of Lake Ontario to 'Lake America', this has occurred amid heightened tensions with Canada and following the collapse of trade negotiations and the imposition of tariffs. Trump has also recently announced that he will declare the Strait of Hormuz as a territory of the United States and change its name to 'Trump Strait'.
