Mental Health Crisis in Children: From Self-Harm to Eating Disorders

ن نگین حسینی · 2 دقیقه · 0

Children, especially at younger ages, are increasingly visiting hospital emergency departments. This increase indicates a serious crisis in the mental health of the younger generation.

Emergency departments in hospitals are increasingly witnessing a rise in cases of self-harm, eating disorders, and emotional problems among young people. This concerning reality, especially regarding children and adolescents, has sounded an alarm that requires immediate attention and serious action.

Worrying Increase in Hospital Visits

Statistics show that children as young as six years old and even younger are visiting emergency departments due to mental health crises. These visits are not only due to acute problems but also due to the increasingly prevalent emergence of psychological and emotional disorders. Issues such as depression, anxiety, and eating disorders have become a serious problem that requires deeper examination and analysis.

Need for Social and Therapeutic Support

It seems that the lack of social support and effective mental health care plays a significant role in the increase of these problems. Many families, due to a lack of awareness or access to quality treatment services, are unable to identify and address their children's issues. Meanwhile, education plays a key role in preventing such crises from occurring.

Given these circumstances, it is essential for relevant institutions to take serious actions to improve the mental health status of children and young people. Among these actions, increasing access to counseling and therapeutic services, conducting educational workshops for parents and teachers, and creating supportive environments for adolescents can be mentioned.
