Russia and Ukraine have recently begun new attacks on each other's energy infrastructure. These attacks come after President Donald Trump announced that the two sides had reached an agreement to stop these assaults.
New Russian Attacks on Ukraine
According to Ukrainian officials, Russia launched 200 drones towards Ukraine in these attacks, damaging energy facilities and ports. In the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv, one person was killed and seven others were injured in attacks on two gas stations, warehouses, and other locations. Additionally, in the southern and western regions, Russian attacks damaged homes and transportation infrastructure.

Ukraine's Response and Next Steps
Kyiv's military forces also announced that they have attacked the Sizzran oil refinery in the Samara region of Russia. Ukrainian officials also reported attacks on a drone production facility in Taganrog and a drone preparation and launch site in the Oryol region. These attacks are part of the daily reality of Russia's invasion of Ukraine, which has now entered its fifth year.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has expressed doubt about Trump's statements regarding an agreement to halt energy attacks, stating that he would only agree to stop attacks if Russia does the same. He pointed to a lack of trust in the Kremlin.
Meanwhile, the Kremlin welcomed the idea of halting attacks but described it as a proposal under discussion with Washington. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov called the proposal a "very good idea" and added that they are in communication with the Americans and always support peaceful solutions.
On Monday, Trump attributed rising diesel prices to the Russia-Ukraine war, while prices have surged following military attacks by the U.S. and Israel on Iran. On Tuesday, Ukraine's command announced the start of a new operation in the Donetsk region, where Ukrainian forces have managed to clear Russian infiltration groups from about 29 square miles.
