Eric Schmidt, CEO and Executive Chairman of Relativity Space, warned that the war zones in Ukraine, known as "killing fields," are rapidly expanding. He explained that these are areas where leaving shelters may lead to death by Russian drones.
Accelerating Innovation
Schmidt stated that the pace of innovation in this war is so fast that weapons may lose their effectiveness within a few months. In an interview, he said, "This is the fastest rate of innovation I have seen in the tech industry." According to him, the war in Ukraine has become a testing ground for drone warfare, and this technology is changing the ways of combat.

Changing Advantages
While Ukraine was historically known as a small and agile innovator, Schmidt said that now Russia is performing better in developing and deploying new weapons, diminishing Ukraine's advantage. He asserted, "Whoever plays the game of rapid innovation at scale better will win this war."
The new General of Ukraine, Mykhailo Drapati, has declared innovation as one of his main priorities and emphasized that Ukraine must learn faster than the enemy on the battlefield. Meanwhile, Volodymyr Zelensky, the President of Ukraine, has pointed to the issue of jet drones and called for strengthening defensive capabilities to counter them.
New Challenges in War
Schmidt also predicted that artificial intelligence could help guide groups of drones in the future. He said, "Humans cannot manage a group of 1000 drones, but a computer can." These advancements have significantly impacted the battlefield and made leaving shelters more dangerous for soldiers on both sides.
According to estimates from the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense, 42,020 Russian soldiers were killed or wounded in August. Schmidt confirmed this figure and stated that the casualty rate for Russia is extremely high. He also pointed out Russia's shortages in equipment and weapons and called for more support for Ukraine from Western countries.
