Nick Reiner, accused of murdering his parents, Rob and Michelle Reiner, is facing charges without a death penalty request from the prosecutors. This decision, according to District Attorney Nathan Hochman, was made after consulting with the victims' family.
Details of the Nick Reiner Case
Nick Reiner is accused of killing his father, renowned director and actor Rob Reiner, and his mother, photographer and producer Michelle Singer Reiner. The murders occurred nine months ago in the family's home in Los Angeles. Nick Reiner has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder stemming from knife wounds inflicted on his parents in December 2025.

On December 14, a massage therapist arrived at the Reiner home for a pre-scheduled appointment, but no one answered the door. The therapist contacted the victims' daughter, Romy Reiner, who went to her parents' house and found her father's bloody body. After contacting emergency services, rescue teams arrived and found both parents inside the house.
Prosecutor's Decision and Influencing Factors
Nathan Hochman, the Los Angeles District Attorney, announced that he and other senior prosecutors in his office considered all aggravating and mitigating factors as well as the wishes of the victims' family. Hochman told reporters, "After a thorough and complete review of all these factors, the District Attorney's Office decided not to seek the death penalty in this case." He added, "This means that the maximum penalty Nick Reiner will face is life imprisonment without the possibility of parole."
However, the prosecutor did not disclose details about the type of penalty the victims' family was seeking. Nevertheless, both parents were known as activists against the death penalty. Hochman noted that they also spoke with Nick Reiner's siblings and took their opinions into account in the final decision.
Nick Reiner, 33, was arrested the same night after police spotted him walking near the University of Southern California, about 13 miles away from the crime scene.
