Intercon Chemical Co. recalled 2,696 boxes of its hand soap products on June 29 due to concerns about bacterial contamination. This recall has recently been elevated to a Class II risk level by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), which is the second-highest level of risk in this classification.
Recall Details and Contamination Concerns
This recall includes six different products that have been sold in 15 states across the United States. The main concern regarding potential bacterial contamination includes the bacteria Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Pseudomonas putida, Pseudomonas monteilii, Serratia marcescens, and Serratia nematodiphila. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Pseudomonas and Serratia bacteria are typically associated with infections arising from healthcare environments, although they are naturally present in the environment, including in soil and water.

- Foaming Hand Soap Pear with Aloe, 28.7 fl oz
- Clearly Better by Intercon Foaming Hand Soap Pear with Aloe, 34 fl oz
- Foaming Hand Soap Summit 150, 28.7 fl oz
- Foaming Hand Soap Vestis, Fresh Pear Scent, 33.8 fl oz
- Liquid Hand Soap Laura Lynn Honey Crisp Apple, 8 fl oz
- Foaming Hand Soap Laura Lynn Pear Scent with Moisturizers, 7.5 fl oz
These soaps have been sold in the states of California, Georgia, Illinois, Iowa, Maryland, Mississippi, Nebraska, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Texas, Washington, and Wisconsin.
Necessary Actions for Consumers
If you have any of these six products at home or at work, stop using them immediately. Currently, there is no information available regarding refunds from Intercon for customers who purchased these recalled soaps. Additionally, if you experience any discomfort after using these soaps, even if mild, seek medical attention immediately.
Despite this recall, consumers should not stop using hand soap altogether. There are many alternative options that can be used as hand soap.
