According to the State Department spokesperson, "Given our commitments as the host country, the main delegation from the Iranian regime will be able to participate in the high-level week of the United Nations General Assembly." This delegation will be subject to travel restrictions and will face prohibitions regarding the purchase of luxury goods and other items. This comes at a sensitive time as U.S. military attacks and those by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps continue in the Strait of Hormuz.

Military Tensions and Trump's Remarks
The Trump administration recently announced that it might return to extensive attacks against Iran. President Donald Trump said in an interview on Thursday, "I have a big decision to make. Do I want to attack them [the Iranian regime] or not? This is a big decision. Anything can happen to me." These remarks come as the U.S. military attacked five Iranian tankers linked to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps last week.
According to the U.S. State Department, the Iranian delegation that has received permission to enter the United States will be smaller than last year's delegation. Ebrahim Raisi, the President of Iran, and Abbas Araqchi, the Iranian Foreign Minister, are among the members of the delegation that have received visas.

Meanwhile, the Trump administration's decision to prevent Mahmoud Abbas, the President of the Palestinian Authority, from attending the General Assembly has been described as a continuation of sanctions against officials of the Palestinian Authority. This decision was made due to the organization's efforts to circumvent negotiations and gain unilateral recognition of a Palestinian state. The Palestinian Authority's Ministry of Foreign Affairs has called this action "unjustified" and emphasized that these measures hinder the creation of trust and the necessary political environment for achieving a two-state solution and attaining peace and stability in the region.
